A team of 8 women are beginning to prepare for one of the toughest bicycle endurance events in the world, the Race Across America, in June 2019.
The women have already overcome their own personal challenges with life changing conditions amongst them, including paralysis, amputations, spinal-chord injuries, strokes and PTSD. Many of them are either currently serving, or are veterans of the UK military.
As the Challenge Ambassador, Dame Sarah Storey DBE said;
“What these remarkable ladies are embarking on, is truly inspirational”.
The team will work together to go from the Pacific to the Atlantic Oceans, cycling in shifts over 3,000 miles, crossing 12 states, climbing over 190,000 feet across both the Rockies and the Appalachians, and passing through deserts in temperatures that can reach 45 degrees Celsius.
The calibre of the team is incredible. 3 members have won medals at the 2016 Invictus Games; between them they have completed 14 ironman triathlons; rowed over 3,000 miles across the Atlantic, were members of the first female team to cross Antartica and the first all female team to complete the Arch 2 Arc in 2015, comprising an 87 mile run from Marble Arch to Dover, then swimming the English Channel, before cycling the 181 miles from Calais to the Arc de Triomphe in Paris.
